Empower Nurse Africa
Our mission is to improve health in Africa by advancing nursing practice.
Nurses are the backbone of healthcare. By enhancing the quality of education for nurses we dramatically improve health outcomes for communities. Nurses with advanced degrees are therefore critical for improving healthcare.

Advance Practice RN Specialty Roles in Africa
-
Nurse Practitioners provide primary, acute, and specialty health care across the lifespan through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and injuries. They can manage 90% of all common and acute problems seen in the clinic.
Wide spread development of this role would be the most beneficial for Africa. Especially in rural areas with limited physician access. Several African countries already report good outcomes using Nurse Practitioners.
-
Certified Nurse-Midwives provide primary, obstetric, gynecological, and reproductive health care.
The Nurse Midwifery role is commonly utilized in Africa at a basic educational level. However there is a significant need for advanced education that would positively affect maternal and neonatal outcomes.
-
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists provide a full range of anesthesia and pain management services.
Nurse Anesthetists are commonly used in Africa where there are no other providers of anesthesia. The role has much need for expansion and education.
-
Clinical Nurse Specialists provide expertise and support to nurses and systems caring for patients; help drive practice changes throughout the organization; and ensure use of best practices and evidence-based care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. While they can diagnose, treat, and provide ongoing management of patients they tend to do so within a clinical specialty for a specific population of patients.
This role is not commonly found in Africa.
